Florida Area Code Map

Florida Area Code MapsHey folks, today we're talking all about the telephone area codes in sunny Florida!

If you're new to the state or maybe just looking to switch up your phone number, it's important to know which area code corresponds to which region. Florida currently has 18 different area codes, so let's dive in and break down what each one represents.

305, 786, and 954

The 305 area code is one of the oldest in Florida and covers the Miami metropolitan area. It was first established in 1947 and served the entire state with only that one code! As Miami's population grew, the area code 786 was added as an overlay in 1998. Similarly, the 954 area code was added to handle Broward County's growing population in 1995.

407, 321, and 689

These area codes cover the central part of Florida including Orlando, Kissimmee, and Sanford. 407 was first established in 1988 and was the only code for the region until 1999 when an overlay, 321, was added. In 2019, a second overlay code, 689, was added to ensure residents and businesses in the area had enough available phone numbers.

813 and 727

The Tampa Bay area is covered by these two area codes. 813 was the original code established in 1947 and remained the sole code for the area until 1998 when 727 was added as an overlay code.

239 and 941

The southwestern part of Florida is covered by these two area codes. 941 was established in 1995 to cover Manatee, Sarasota, and Charlotte counties, and 239 was added as the overlay code in 2002 to accommodate the growing population in the area.

850 and 904

Covering the panhandle and northeastern parts of Florida respectively, these area codes were both established in 1965. The 850 area code serves the Tallahassee and Pensacola areas, while the 904 code covers Jacksonville and St. Augustine.

352 and 386

These two area codes cover the northern part of Florida, including Gainesville and Lake City. 352 was first established in 1995 and remained the only code until 2001 when the 386 overlay code was added.

561, 772, and 945

These area codes cover the southeastern part of Florida including West Palm Beach, Port St. Lucie, and Vero Beach. 561 was established in 1996, with 772 added as an overlay in 2002, and 945 added as a second overlay in 2022.

727, 352, and 850

These are Florida's area codes that spell out words! The 727 area code spells out "PAS," which is thought to stand for Pinellas, Anclote, and Sutherland (though it's not officially confirmed). The 352 area code spells out "F LA", and the 850 area code spells out "VIA," which is short for the Spanish word "vía" meaning "way" or "route."

We hope this breakdown of Florida's area codes helps you figure out which code is right for your phone number needs. Have any questions or comments? Let us know in the comments below!
